Writer asking the approval of No-min han, regarding a seal called “dngul-tham” to be used in zhu-yig for Emperor. See another name of this seal 012 1-1/#/6/10/4. Document contains also 'go-mchan letter (25 XII chu-'brug), issued by No-min han showing his disapproval towards their application. 'Go-mchan or mgo-mchan literally “head note”, was issued by the high ranking officers as part of a response to an individual writer and his application. The applicant writes his letter on the lower half of the sheet, so that the upper half's blank space is reserved for the official's “head note” to be written. The “head note” contains a response that may indicate whether the official is in favour or disfavour of the applicants request. It is said that usually the approved applications are returned to the applicant, the unapproved ones are not returned. We have some documents where the applicants show their continuous effort to overcome the official's prior disapproval. It is also important to mention here such a “'go-mchan” letter is not only found as an ordinary application, but also as an edict of the ruler. See 012 2-1/#/74/9/4. |
